Matthias von Randow
... is Executive Director of the German Aviation Association (BDL) since 1 July 2011. He previously worked with airberlin, where he acted as board representative from January 2009 to June 2011 and headed the departments of political affairs, international transport law and sustainability/corporate social responsibility.
Prior to joining the aviation industry, he worked with Germany’s Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Affairs (BMVBS) from 1998 to 2008. He first ran the ministry’s coordination unit and, from 2004, the general policy department for transport. In 2008, he was appointed state secretary to the ministry. In this role, he was responsible for transport policy and oversaw the ministry’s five transport departments and its subdivisions, including the staff of the Federal Waterways and Shipping Authority, as well as the Federal Air, Rail and Road transport Authorities.
Matthias von Randow was a member of the board of directors of Deutsche Bahn AG and of Fraport AG. He is currently a member of the Corporate Development Council of Duisburger Hafen AG.
Matthias von Randow was born on the 30 May 1959 in Koblenz. Following an apprenticeship as a retailer, he studied economic and constitutional history, sociology and political sciences in Bonn and Rome. He graduated in 1989 and gained his first experience in association work with the federal board of the Confederation of German Trade Unions (DGB) and the SPD party leadership. He is married and has two adult daughters.
